As part of the Government of India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, students of the Forest Research Institute (Deemed to be University), Dehradun, came together on January 17, 2025, to take a Cleanliness Pledge. The event emphasized the importance of sustainable lifestyles, environmental responsibility, and collective action towards a cleaner and greener future.
The pledge ceremony was held in the main campus and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and administrative staff.
The students and staff solemnly vowed to:

  1. Keep their surroundings clean and hygienic.
  2. Reduce the use of single-use plastics.
  3. Properly segregate waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories.
  4. Promote awareness about the importance of cleanliness and sustainability.
  5. Encourage eco-friendly practices such as recycling and composting.
  6. Take individual and collective steps to combat pollution in all forms.

The pledge-taking ceremony was followed by a short awareness campaign conducted by the students. Posters, slogans, and creative presentations were displayed, addressing themes such as waste reduction, water conservation, and sustainable living practices. A small skit performed by the Environmental Management students effectively showcased the impact of improper waste disposal on natural ecosystems.

The cleanliness pledge marks another step in the institute’s efforts to create environmentally conscious citizens and future leaders in environmental management. The participants left with a renewed sense of responsibility and determination to contribute meaningfully to the global fight against environmental degradation.
