Forest Pathology Discipline Organized two lectures by Prof. Sanjeev Chauhan from Forestry and Natural Resources Department, PAU, Ludhiana, Punjab on “Initiatives for agro-forestry development and livelihood options in Punjab” and Dr. K.T. Parthiban, Dean (Forestry), FCRI, Mettupalyam, TN on” Present and future prospects of tree breeding and forest biotechnology” to M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars under FRIDU, Dehradun on account of Azadi ka amrit mahotsav and theory supplementation.

In commemoration of the 75th Year of Indian Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav), Chemistry and Bioprospecting Division, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun organized a “Virtual Workshop on Principles and Practices of GC and GC-MS Techniques” on January 28, 2022. The Work is designed to facilitate exposure of fundamental and advanced knowledge on analytical practices of GC & GC-Ms through theoretical lectures, and live demonstrations (virtual).

Two days National Workshop on the topic “Green Biotechnology and Therapeutic Potential of Medicinal Plants” on 27th & 28th January, 2022 for the students under Strengthening Component of Star College Scheme of DBT organized by S.S. Khanna Girls Degree College, Prayagraj. Dr. Sanjay Singh and Dr. Anita Tomar delivered invited lecture on Therapeutic potential of Medicinal Plants and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

In commemoration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Chemistry and Bioprospecting Division of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun organized a Virtual Workshop on “Application of Natural Aroma Chemicals in Wellbeing” on 22nd April, 2022 in which knowledge and technical know-how relating to the extraction, quality assessment and value addition of aroma chemicals apart from historical trends and business opportunities were explained to the participants through lectures and virtual demonstrations.

Extension Division, FRI organized a virtual meeting for virtual visit of FRI and arranged a lecture on occasion of Earth day on activities of the Institute/organization for B.Sc. Hons.(Horti.) students of Adhiparasakthi Horticultural College, G.B. Nagar, Kalavia, Ranipet (Vellore) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore-3 at FRI, Dehradun on 22.04.2022. The Lecture was delivered by Dr. Charan Singh, Scientist-F of Extension Division. About 100 students with their Professors attended the programme.

Genetics and Tree Improvement Division organized a “Research Outreach to Agroforestry for Wood based Industry” for various organization on 20th May, 2022. Delegation was led by Shri Ashok Aggarwal, President Indian Industry Association. Participating organizations were Indian Industries Association, Wood Industries of UP/Haryana, Wood Technological Association.

A one-day Professional Advancement Programme in the hybrid mode on the topic ‘Understanding domain of IPR: A wholesome Perspective’ was organized by Forest Research Institute (Deemed to be University), Dehradun on June 04, 2022. Prof. V. Banakar, Bankar Consulting Services, Westfield USA was the speaker. He spoke on various aspects of the IPR including Understanding domain of IPR; Patentability; Terms & Terminology; Differentiating invention and claim, Taking invention to market; Protecting IPR; and Solutions to current scenario. More than 60 scientists, research scholars and students from FRI (Deemed to be University) participated in the event.

Extension Division organized an online seminar on “Agroforestry for wood production: Issues & Challenges” at FRI, Dehradun on 10.06.2022 to the different stakeholders. About 50 scientists, officers, farmers, scholars and other stakeholders were attended the online programme.

In commemoration of the 75th year of India’s Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav), a virtual seminar on ‘Bioassay guided probing of plants for therapeutic application’ was organized  on 22nd July 2022 by Chemistry & Bioprospecting Division, Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun. More than 100 participants including scientists, faculty, technical staff, and research scholars of the FRI and other organizations joined the programme. Four guest speakers from CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Central Research Laboratory, Maratha Mandal Group of Institutions, Belgaum and DIT University, Dehradun deliberated upon methods and techniques employed in bioassay guided isolation, characterization, and synthesis of bioactive molecules, SWOT analysis of herbal drug development in the global context and systematic plan of pharmacological screening of plants for drug discovery.

Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a webinar on the topic " LCQTOFMS - Data Processing and Interpretation " was organized on 15/02/2023 at 11.00 hrs  by the Chemistry & Bio-prospecting Division of the Forest Research  Institute (FRI), Dehradun. The objective of the webinar was to enhance the analytical capabilities of scientists, technical staff and research scholars in use of LCQTOFMS technique. Speaker was Prof. Brijesh Kumar, Chief Scientist (Retired), SAIF, CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow. Through PowerPoint presentation, he spoke on the LCQTOFMS analytical technique and explained the methodology of processing and interpretation of data duly exemplified with various case studies. A number of scientists, technical staff and research scholars of the FRI and other ICFRE institutes attended the lecture.

Extension Division organized two days training on “Agroforestry and land management” under VVK-KVK networking at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhanauri (Haridwar) on 23.02.2023 and 24.02.2023. About 41 farmers were attended the training programme.

A monthly seminar titled ‘Application of Nanotechnology in Wood-Based Products Industry’ was conducted by Forest Products Division on 15 March, 2023 at FRIDU Boardroom. The seminar was attended by all scientists, technical officers, ACTOs, CTOs of Forest Products Division and all students of M.Sc. (Wood Science and Technology), FRIDU, Dehradun, many technocrats from wood based industries. Two speakers were invited to give talks on recent developments and research gaps on application of nano-technology in wood sector. Seminar kick-started with a welcome address by Dr. Shailendra Kumar, Scientist-D. The lead talk was delivered by Dr. Harish Barshilia, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, B’luru on “Future Prospects of Nano-technology for Wood Based Products”. The second talk was delivered by Prof. Gaurav Manik, Department of Polymer and Process Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee on “Carbon nano-materials: opportunities and challenges in product development”. Discussion on research gaps, question answers were followed after the presentations.

Extension Division organized 5 days training on “Making Bamboo and Ringal Handicrafts” to the farmers and artisans was organized at FRI w.e.f. 13-17 March, 2023 under the AICRP-2 Bamboo project. About 28 farmers/artisans were attended the training programme.

Under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, G&TI organized a Webinar on the topic “Dynamics of Photosynthesis Apparatus in Plants for Combating Climate Change” on 22nd March, 2023 from 10 am onwards. Dr. Ramwant Gupta, Associate Professor, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University was the key speaker of the Webinar. Dr. Hukum Singh is the organizing secretary of the Webinar.
